Climate Change 2007: The IPCC 4th Assessment Report

The planet's temperature is rising, sea levels threaten to swallow coastlines and the world's residents want to know, more than ever, how worried to be. An authoritative answer comes this week.

On Friday, February 4, the first part of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) 4th assessment report will be released globally. The role of the IPCC is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant to understanding the scientific basis of risk of human-induced climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation.

This first volume will address:

What progress has been made in understanding and attributing climate change?

• What do observations of the atmosphere, oceans, sea level, and ice tell us?
• How has climate been behaving in the last hundreds of thousands years?
• Which are the projections of future change?

Early press reports are that this new IPCC assessment will be the most hard-hitting to date on the issue of climate change.

Joining Think Globally in the studio for a first assessment of the report and the issues it contains will be Dr. Thorsten Blenckner, a German climate impact researcher working in Sweden since 1998. Don’t miss this exciting programme!

Think Globally is heard every Sunday evening at kl 19:00 on THS Radio 95,3 MHz. An extensive archive of past programs can be listened to on demand at www.thsradio.se/thinkglobally
